The cursor

All I had to do was write a message, but I was frozen in place. Not knowing where to begin or what to say, the black cursor flashing on the white background.

Well, I did know what to say: I just had to invite her.

I just had to tell her - to let her know - that it wouldn't be so bad to ... no, that won't work. "Not so bad to go out with me?" That's not exactly compelling. To heck with it, just write whatever comes out! At least that would be better than a blank page.

I started writing hastily, to try to avoid losing my train of thought and to be able to get it all out.
I stopped after three words.

As I saw them in the screen, those first words, I realized that those may be the most truthful part of my message.

In the screen, the words "I want you" adorned the page with the cursor not far away.
I wanted to send just that.

I'm not brave enough for that, though, so I just kept typing a message well into the night.

But I never deleted that little nugget of truth.
